AIDS Memorial Quilt and GLBTIQ Art Exhibition
Date: 25 Jan - 12 Feb Price: free
Exhibition of the AIDS Memorial Quilt in Altona and GLBTIQ artists. The Gallery is proud to bring 12 large beautiful panels of the AIDS Memorial Quilt across the Westgate for the first time, to Altona. The panels are machine-sewn, hand-sewn, appliqued, embroidered, hand-dyed, and many blocks have messages to loved ones written on them. Take some time to walk around the gallery, read the stories of friends and families who have created the panels in loving memory of a son, daughter, friend, lover or colleague. There will also be a small exhibition of 5 artists from the west who have worked or volunteered in the GLBTIQ community. Painting, sculpture, textile-work and photography are some of the creative styles of work on display. Enjoy Altona in all its hidden beauty, walk along the pier, have a picnic lunch in the park across the road from the gallery or perhaps dine or coffee in one of the many restaurants and coffee shops only a minute's walk from the gallery. Two quilts have also been hung in each of the Altona Meadows Library and the Williamstown Library.
