An exhibition of Australian Artists who explore the phenomenon of Queer.

An exhibition of Australian Artists who explore the phenomenon of Queer, featuring Deborah Pauuwe (SA), Liam Benson (NSW), Drew Pettifer (VIC) and Deborah Kelly (NSW).

This exhibition examines the queer role played in a post-identity and also, increasingly, post-gender contemporary society. Blue and Pink Phenomenon presents a Queer frisson in a heterogeneous world. Curated by Jessica Bridgfoot, works featured include Deborah Pauuwe's beautiful photographic images of anonymous subjects in the midst of an awakening sexuality and performative desires; Sydney-based performance and video artist Liam Benson appears in various tragic-comic fictional Australiana guises with new work and his ongoing Motherland series; Deborah Kelly presents a series of animalistic paper sculptures with the loud, queer and sometimes violent major animation work Beastliness (pictured); and Drew Pettifer's photographic outdoor billboard installation, Still Revolting, examines the ongoing relevance of the queer protester as an agent of political and social change.

  • The Age, 2 Feb - "Paul Yore's vast, fastidiously constructed and mechanised installation makes for a psychedelic, colour-drenched melange of gay politics, puns, sound, debris and dildos, while Deborah Kelly's fantastically camp animated music video captures a sexy, trans-species disco party in full swing."
