Queer City finds a new home!
This Midsumma will see us witness the most anticipated match-up in the history of art. Are you ready? Ladies and gentlemen… Llllllllleeeeets get ready to rrrrrrruuuuuummmmmbooooooooooo!
Rat vs Jimwah in the battle of the century! Style against style, brush against can, who will be triumphant? A colourful display of mixed media through a series of one-on-one battle scenes. Why make war when you can make art? Round One.. get ready.. fight!
This Midsumma exhibition consists of a series of cartoon characters that battle it out in a light-hearted "looney-tunes" inspired brawl. The artists, one being lesbian and the other gay male, play with homosexual stereotypes they have grown up with, using tongue-in-cheek attacks such as a drag queen's bad singing ability.
Although this exhibition takes a light-hearted approach to homosexual stereotypes, it also highlights the underlying theme of the segregation that exists within the GLBTI community, and how we battle with ourselves, when we should ideally be united in solidarity against the violence and persecution we face as a minority.
