A Solo Exhibition from artist and activist Zanele Muholi.

Mo(u)rning is a solo exhibition from South African artist and activist Zanele Muholi. Muholi works to recreate an understanding of black lesbian women in post-apartheid South Africa. She presents the power of love and community in the face of vicious hate crimes. Her practice challenges understandings of gender-identity, questioning the way lesbian women are viewed in South Africa. Muholi is re-creating an understanding of lesbian women, helping prevent their victimisation and abuse.

Check out Zanele's video: Difficult love, difficult truthHer portraiture speaks of a great depth of understanding between subject and photographer. She has captured the image and voice of a community that needs to be heard and known.
