Evocative prose from one of our most accomplished writers
From the lyric eroticism of her short stories to the wild and snowy landscapes of her recent non-fiction work, long-time Word is Out writer and spoken word performer Urszula Dawkins remains fascinated by journeys of the heart, the gut and the body at large.
Urszula brings tales of sub-zero Svalbard to mid-summer Melbourne, following her 2010 participation in The Arctic Circle creative residency, an ocean voyage around the high-arctic, a few hundred miles from the North Pole.
Polar bears, northern lights, glittering glaciers and an ice-class sailing ship sit side by side with the wandering heart, in a program that also features film and video works by Arctic Circle participants from the USA, Mexico and Sweden: Katja Aglert, Janet Biggs, Rebeca Mendéz and Laurie Palmer.
Urszula Dawkins gratefully acknowledges the support of the Department of Culture and The Arts, Western Australia and AbaF's Australia Cultural Fund.
