After two highly successful seasons, Pink Shorts is back in 2010 for another run of fun and entertainment in one of Melbourne's most well known inner city arts venues, fortyfive downstairs.

Pink Shorts includes a selection of new queer themed plays which aim to entertain, performed by some of Melbourne's most experienced actors next to some of Melbourne newest talent.

The season gives emerging artists a chance to show never before seen theatre pieces to Melbourne audiences. Pushing the promise of Midsumma to promote and nurture Melbourne's best new queer talent.

Pink Shorts is produced and performed entirely by volunteers who all generously donate their time to put on a diverse and stimulating production, so be sure to support the community that supports you.

Remember to vote for your favourite play, winners will be announced on the final night. Award categories are "Audience award" (most popular play, as voted by you), "Best Writer", "Best Director", "Best Actor" and "Best Overall Production".

So bring your lover, your family, your friends and your workmates – there's something for everyone as Pink Shorts explores the ins and outs of our community.

The plays this year are:

  • Wilde Kingdom by Peter Bloem: Two chinstrap penguins - based on a true story.
  • Knowing Me, You by Michele Saint-Yves: A romantic weekend away spirals into a break-up and break down. What's left when the words have disappeared - an eyelash, a drop of blood...
  • Rugger Bugger by David McAmis: After a tough game of rugby, way out in the country, there's more to get a grip on than just the loss of yet another match.
  • Hide & Seek by Ella Harvey and Greta Larkins: A game of Hide & Seek takes some unusual turns as two old friends learn unexpected truths about each other.
  • For Queer Boys by Mark Brown: A representation through vignettes of the difficulties encountered within a relationship between a black man and a white man.
