Visual Arts Working Group

Every year, Midsumma curates, as well as hosts, a number of Visual Arts exhibitions throughout the Festival. The Midsumma-produced exhibitions traditionally included 'Queer City Premier Visual Arts' and 'Yarra Arts', but have recently been extended and revamped. In addition, there are some new and exciting projects in surrounding councils.

The Midsumma Visual Arts Working Group (VAWG) are responsible for the curation of these spaces. From assessing the submissions, to activating networks to 'create a buzz', the VAWG works alongside VAWG Chair, Rat Simpson, to program, bump in, launch, bump out and promote the Midsumma-produced Visual Arts Program for Midsumma Festival.

The Visual Arts Working Group meets monthly to discuss progress of projects, and for communicative decision making. As with all Midsumma board and working group positions, this is a voluntary role.
