A Space is Held

A Space is Held’ is a series of performance artworks presented live by multidisciplinary artists. The direct nature of performance will elevate ideas of queer bodies, displacement and anticolonialism to a common knowledge better understood by many. This afternoon of performance from artists living in Naarrm aims to highlight the complexity of the queer narrative as well as the broad scope of a performative practice.

A hybridisation of communities sharing space and ideologies is in the practices of these artists, as they explore themes of gender identity, spatial politics and the importance of cultural preservation through art. As we attempt to find meaning through gesture and designate importance to these moments of expression in space.

With a foundation provided, what can these performers unfold? How do we use our bodies as words and words as resistance?

A Space is Held facilitates these artists to take their space and to nurture and care for it however they see fit. As we respond and cohabitate with unfamiliar, archaic surroundings, please join us to listen and be the vessels for these works.
