Make A Fuss exhibition at QVWC - Sonia Zymantas
QVWC x Gems Zine Workshops
Queen Victoria Women’s Centre and Gems Zine will host three creative workshops focused on developing new skills and exploring self-expression in zine form. It’s a collaborative form, so bring your friends, grab a beverage and learn hands-on from the experts at Gems Zine who’ll be talking, making, painting and collaging. These workshops are a great friendly way to reconnect in-person, share stories and participate in group reflection. We welcome beginners through to the experienced! Participants will have the opportunity to submit their final works for Issue 21 of Gems Zine.
Queen Victoria Women’s Centre aims to be both an iconic destination and women’s centre without walls. Our work is to enable, recognise and support the well-being and human rights of women (cis, trans and non-binary inclusive) from all walks of life through creating and sharing cultural experiences of many kinds.
Thursday 27 January
Collage Workshop
Brooke Van Der Linden (they/them) is a queer multidisciplinary artist interested in collecting and repurposing materials. Brooke completed their Fine Art Honours at RMIT in 2019 and has worked almost exclusively with a repertoire of found imagery, sourced from second-hand books and magazines since 2012. Their practice spans from analogue and digital collage to large scale textile-based installation, as they investigate the tension between analogue and digital landscapes symptomatic of contemporaneity.
Thursday 3 February
Painting Workshop
Vonne Beyer (she/her) is a practicing artist and teacher. Her main medium is oil paint and she is currently exploring the meeting point of abstraction and still life. Her workshop will encourage and guide participants to explore paint and colour.
Thursday 10 February
Drawing, Writing and Zine Workshop
Gems Zine
Anna MacNeill (she/her), Freya Alexander (she/her) & Tegan Iversen (she/her)
Gems is a Naarm/Melbourne-based collective created to showcase creative work made by women and non-binary people. We self-produce Gems zine tri-annually and fill the pages with art and writing by women and non-binary people based in Australia and worldwide. In our workshop participants will engage in a range of drawing activities and writing exercises, as well as learning how to create a simple zine template.
