This ones for the gurls, it’s performance and it’s a party!

Brought to you by FAFSWAG and Midsumma Festival, BLOW is a celebration of Indigenous femmes and Pacific womxn of colour told through cultural drag, vogue dance and ballroom culture. Samoan performance artist Jaycee Tanuvasa assembles a cast of misfits and movers to take up space through sisterhood and solidarity with local artists and performers, set to a backdrop of live electronic and vogue music, designed by DJ duo TH1R§T3EN (Auckland) & Kuya Neil (Melbourne) from sound collective Fanau Spa.

Audiences are encouraged to participate in the event through the guidance of host MC and ballroom chanter - Gardinier. Gardinier sets the tone of the evening and the rules of engagement introducing each of the performers and their pieces. From beginning to end the DJs will hold space with a LIVE soundtrack of moods and vibes for the audience as the chanter and performers weave a unique narrative with their bodies throughout the show.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.

This event takes place in the North Magdalen Laundry. The Convent was inscribed on the National Heritage List in August 2017, with the Magdalen Laundry and asylum buildings recognised as an important physical record for those Australians and their families known as the Forgotten Australians. We recognise and honour the thousands of girls and women placed in care at the Convent, including those who laboured in the onsite Magdalen Laundry. The harm of institutionalisation and the trauma experienced by many residents is acknowledged as part of the Convent’s heritage. The Magdalen Laundry provides a space for artists, audiences and communities to experience new practices, narratives and histories, while respecting the heritage and social history of these spaces.
