Diimpa x Forest Collective
Beautiful Indigenous music in a rich chamber orchestra setting
Join new music doyens Forest Collective on an adventure of deep listening as we explore the unique sounds of composer Diimpa in the lush surrounds of the open air.
Diimpa’s rich sound world draws from lived experience as a queer, autistic, Aboriginal Gubbi Gubbi man and will take you on a sonic journey from darkness to light as you sit back and relax in the tree-filled surrounds of Heide Museum of Modern Art.
Lead by artistic director Evan J Lawson, Forest Collective is a 15 piece chamber ensemble dedicated to new classical music. Lauded for unique and surprising performances, Forest Collective is one of Melbourne's finest new music ensembles, working across disciplines from pop music to the avant-garde, from opera to contemporary dance.
Join Forest Collective as they weave together the beautiful minimalist looping music of Diimpa in a rich chamber orchestra sound.
"Forest Collective is doing important things. The musicians appear committed to presenting diverse works and under Evan’s leadership, it feels like no composition, style, or concept is off-limits. Forest Collective make contemporary music sound, look, and feel exciting. The musicians are right on the pulse, and offer audiences a diverse and thoughtfully curated experience."
"...Forest Collective constantly challenges audiences to reconsider not only what chamber music can be, but also what the very essence of music can be. They’ve taken bold steps doing that this year and here’s hoping they continue playing all the right notes."
