Footscray Queer History Walk
** Cancelled due to extreme heat **
The much loved queer history walk by the Australian Queer Archives is coming to Footscray for the first time in collaboration with the Living Museum of the West.
Footscray is layered with queer histories from Footscray Community Arts Centre and Footscray Town Hall to Gayskate, Bulldogs Pride, and Pride of Our Footscray Community Bar and beyond. The Australian Queer Archives has for many years been conducting tours and walking the streets of Melbourne sharing these queer histories.
This is our first one exploring the western suburbs in collaboration with the Living Museum of the West. The Living Museum of the West is Australia's first and only eco-museum, and has been documenting and preserving the stories and images of the places and people living in Melbourne's West since 1984. Together, we will take you on a journey through time and place covering circus and more performing arts histories, sport histories, politics, unions, balls, clubs, and, of course, beats, and we will create opportunities for you to share your own stories and add them to our collections if you would like to share them.
