In Conversation: ACT UP

with Monica Pearl & Brenton Geyer

A conversation between Dr Monica Pearl (University of Manchester and activist in ACT UP New York) and Brenton Geyer (Living Positive Victoria and activist in ACT UP Melbourne) about the parallel histories, experiences and legacies of ACT UP in New York City and Melbourne.

This will be a lively and entertaining tribute to the brave and daring acts of defiance that left their mark on these two cities. Monica and Brenton will talk about the different catalysts for action in both cities and how ACT UP went about bringing the injustices and lack of response around HIV/AIDS to the attention of the community, the politicians and the media.

The audience will have the opportunity to contribute to the conversation and provide recollections of their own ACT UP experiences and be asked to ponder how a time and place in history impacted their lives and the lives of many others.
