Over the Rainbow and Through the Woods

Queer folk and fairy tales!
"In that long-ago place where spells were as common as sneezes..."
Come for a journey over the rainbow and through the woods to the land of once upon a time. In this magical place, you will meet mysterious monarchs, amazing animals, and people filled with pride before sailing away to new and enchanted lands.
Join storyteller Em Chandler as they breathe new life into queer folk and fairy tales from around the globe. Musician Indigo Medling joins Em in taking you on this fantastic journey across the rainbow spectrum by improvising a soundtrack for each story. Some stories will sound familiar to ones you might know, while others will seem brand new - even though they are very old indeed! Each and every one will spring to life in your imaginations sharing their humour, surprises, and heart.
If you love fairy tales and storytelling or just need some extra enchantment in your life, this show is not to be missed. Bring your kids, your partner, your neighbours, your greatest great-grandmother! Everyone 8 to 800 will be entranced by these queer stories long after the final "happily ever after".
Em Chandler (they/she) is a queer and trans storyteller, theatre-maker, and magician. The Sydney Morning Herald describes Em as "pure enchantment". Their directorial debut - ‘The Story Keepers’ - premiered at La Mama in 2022 as part of Midsumma.
Indigo Medling (she/her) has always been surrounded by the arts, with her Steiner education encouraging her to be creative from a young age. Always surrounded by music, she now loves to write songs and can be seen performing with her band The Fair Shrews.
