Rainbow Community Picnic
Midsumma in the Southeast
Come join us for a relaxed day out, celebrating our LGBTIQ+ community and allies in Melbourne’s Southeast. Pack your own picnic and relax as you are entertained, connected and energised.
Nevo Zisin, a queer, non-binary transgender advocate, will open our picnic with a warm and welcoming conversation about being LGBTIQ+ in the southeast. Joining Nevo will be local residents Taga Barrio, Taz Zd and Moxie Delite along with Tuesday Atzinger from the AGMC. What does it mean to have our first Midsumma event in Casey? Our rainbow has many layers -- sexual orientation, gender identity, but also culture, faith, class, abilities, language, age. Can we see ourselves? Can we see each other?
Jesse Dean and Rex Spandex will perform drag story telling and you can take home a binge bag of books selected from Casey-Cardinia Libraries’ Rainbow Collection – all thanks to our local libraries!
Learn to line dance with Lifeview as you get your happy feet on and join us in an all ages boot scooting session. No experience required – it’s all about the adventure!
We keep saying, "We shouldn't have to leave Casey to be ourselves," and now you don't need to leave Casey to be entertained by some quintessentially queer talent!
Catch local entertainers Fuchsia Delusia, Abeloth Addams, Linh Uendo, Moxie Delite and Freida Commitment and visual arts and dance sensation Jonathan Homsey.
Connection Arts Space will open an exhibition celebrating queer identity, culture and stories as part of the picnic. Hear from some of the artists, respond to the exhibits and make your own pride flag – about whatever you are proud of!
Rounding out the day will be face painting for all ages, sausages served up by Rotaract and a chill out room by Headspace for anyone wanting to have a break from the bustle and activity of the event.
This is supported by Casey Rainbow Community, City of Casey, Selandra Community Hub, Casey-Cardinia Libraries, Lifeview (Rainbow Tick accredited provider of residential care), Casey Multi-Faith Network, Australian GLBTIQ Multicultural Council, Headspace, Connection Arts Space, Rotaract and Cardinia LGBTQI
