Trans and Gender Diverse: Questions and Answers
A discussion of all things trans
Hear stories and insights from a panel with a unique range of lived experiences, including transitioning in high school, coming out as transgender later in life, and raising gender diverse children. The audience is invited to ask respectful questions and can join us afterwards for refreshments and social chat. The panel includes Nevo Zisin, Michelle McNamara, Karyn Walker and Dani Weber.
About the panel
Nevo Zisin is a Jewish, queer, non-binary writer, activist and public speaker with a particular focus on issues surrounding gender, sex, culture and sexuality. They run workshops in schools and workplaces around trans issues. They are also the author of award-winning Finding Nevo, a memoir on gender transition.
Michelle McNamara is an out and proud transgender woman living on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people which were never ceded. Michelle teaches a postgraduate biotechnology course at the University of Melbourne and is also active in diversity and inclusion at the university. Outside of the university, Michelle is a committee member of Queers in Science, Transgender Victoria and the Australian GLBTIQ Multicultural Council.
Karyn Walker is co-founder of Parents of Gender Diverse Children which provides peer support, education and advocacy, and she is mum to two children, one of whom is trans.
Dani Weber is known for their work as a queer performance artist and events producer. They started performing as drag king, Dani Boi, whilst living in San Francisco. They are passionate about discussing non binary representation and identity, with articles published in The Guardian and Archer Magazine, and are featured in a short documentary on ABC iView, DANI BOI.
