Join the Midsumma Board: Help Shape the Future of Queer Arts in Australia
There are moments when you’re invited not just to participate in something, but to help shape it.
This is one of those moments.
Midsumma, Australia’s premier LGBTQIA+ arts organisation, is seeking new members to join its Board. For nearly four decades, Midsumma has been a home for artists, storytellers, and communities connected by shared experiences of gender and sexuality. While many know us for our vibrant summer festival, our work continues all year, supporting creativity, amplifying voices, and building platforms for cultural expression and social change.
Behind all of this sits a Board committed to guiding the organisation with care, vision, and integrity.
Why join the Board?
Joining the Midsumma Board is more than a governance role; it’s a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the future of LGBTQIA+ culture in Australia. It’s about being part of conversations that matter, supporting artists and communities, and helping ensure that queer stories continue to be told, celebrated, and funded.
We are currently welcoming applications from people who bring a passion for the arts, social inclusion, and intersectional collaboration. In particular, we’re looking to strengthen our expertise in:
-
Fundraising and philanthropy
-
Partnerships and strategic relationships
-
Governance, including a new Board Secretary
We’re also looking for people who:
-
Care deeply about community and cultural development
-
Bring strong advocacy and relationship-building skills
-
Have networks across government, business, community, or philanthropy
-
Are willing to champion Midsumma’s mission and values
And importantly, you don’t need to tick every box or have any previous Board experience.
If you’re feeling a spark reading this, we encourage you to trust it.
Representation matters
Midsumma is proud to be shaped by the communities it serves. We strongly encourage applications from First Nations people, gender diverse people, culturally diverse communities, and people with disability. Allies are warmly welcomed too.
If you require any adjustments or accommodations to explore the role or participate fully as a Board member, we are here to support you.
A note on commitment
Board positions at Midsumma are voluntary. What you’ll be contributing isn’t measured in dollars, it’s measured in impact, connection, and legacy.
This is a chance to give back to a community that continues to create, challenge, and inspire.
Midsumma is heading towards our 40th year in 2028 - and we aim to continue to move and flow with our communities as we grow towards our futures. We need you to help shape this with us.
How to apply
If this feels like the right next step for you, we’d love to hear from you.
Please send your CV along with a short outline of the skills and perspective you would bring to Midsumma to helloboard(at)midsumma.org.au
