Kits in Motion 2026 Midsumma Visual Identity

Midsumma Festival returns this summer for 22 days of queer joy, bold ideas and connection across Victoria. With more than 200 events in 150+ venues, expect art that moves you, stories that challenge you, and celebrations that bring us together.

This year’s theme, Time & Place, comes to life through our 2026 visual identity by Melbourne-based designer Blanca González (Kits in Motion). Her work blends layered textures that shift like wind across Country — echoes of bark, stone and cloud radiating the energy of parade. Abstract forms hint at faces and masks, anchored by a sun at the emotional centre, while subtle nods to both the Victorian Pride Centre and the Yarra River ground the design in community, culture and queer motion.

Time & Place invites us to reflect on where we've come from, where we stand, and where we dare to go next. It’s about honouring history, reclaiming space and deepening our connection to land, to community and to each other.

'As the world faces division and retreat from progress, the need to connect through shared humanity has never been more urgent. Time and Place reflects these challenges while celebrating our power to unite through creativity and pride.' – Karen Bryant, Midsumma CEO

About the Art, and Artist on the theme "Time & Place".

Paraguay-born, and now Melbourne-based designer Blanca González (aka Kits in Motion) crafts emotive visual art across the 2026 visual identity for Midusmma.

For Midsumma Festival 2026, Blanca interprets "Time & Place" (the theme of the 2026 Midsumma Festival) as a kinetic collage with wind-borne textures, bark, stone, city, cloud and the rush of energy. Organic shapes suggest theatrical faces and masks, while a summer sun anchors the composition to ground each piece in unity.

Negative-space evokes traces of the Birrarung - Yarra River and Melbourne’s contours locate the work in community and Country, echoing the festival’s call to reconnect in physical spaces, honour histories, and imagine a more inclusive future; here, now, and ahead. As the world faces a rising tide of division and retreat from progress, the need to connect through shared humanity has never been more urgent, here, and globally.
