2099: Messages to our queer future
Image: The Artist Known As Foot
If you could call out to the future what would you tell the young queer folk of 2099? What would you tell yourself?
What histories, legacies and stories are held within 75 years? How far has queer liberation come in the past 75 years? The queer landscape will inevitably look vastly different come the turn of the century, if you could call out to the future what would you tell the young queer folk of 2099, what would you tell yourself, should you survive to those days?
Exhibition: Saturday 17 January until Wednesday 4 February
2099 is an exhibition that openly invites artists, creatives and makers of all ages, to create a love letter, in any medium, to the future of queer community, explore the hopes of queer liberation in the future and showcase a time capsule of the unique intricacies of queer culture today.
The exhibition will feature works from diverse artists, carefully curated by The Artist Known as Foot. Opening event: Saturday 24 January at noon
Workshop: Saturday 31 January 1pm
As part of this exhibition, Foot will also be guiding a quilt square workshop, A comfort message. The workshop invites people to attend and personalise a single textile square using secondhand materials that will form a community quilt encapsulating queer community today, creating an object that will have the opportunity to be displayed in the future, with the intention to exist to 2099 and beyond.
During the four hour workshop, participants would be given a precut square, having many options to select from, to create a textile collage using handsewing and access to a sewing machine to personalise their square as they see fit to reflect their queer message.
