Queer Food Tours: Where every flavour is inspired by a story of pride
A Taste of Pride – Queer Food Tour, Midsumma 2026
Discover Melbourne’s queer history through food with A Taste of Pride — a one-of-a-kind walking tour created by Queer Food, a trans and queer-run social enterprise using food to share stories and give back to LGBTQIA+ communities across Australia.
Starting at Val’s Coffee Plaque, 123 Swanston Street, this guided tour invites you to explore the city’s queer past and present through a series of meaningful stops, each paired with a dish or drink inspired by the story behind it. You’ll walk through the streets where love, protest, and community shaped Melbourne’s queer identity, tasting your way through stories of courage, creativity, and pride.
From sweet to savoury, every flavour connects to a real person, place, or moment in history — from underground meeting spots and early activists to celebrations of equality and inclusion. Along the way, Queer Food’s team shares the research, recipes, and resilience that fuel their mission to make queer stories more visible and deliciously unforgettable.
This is more than a food tour, it’s an edible archive, a celebration of queer storytelling, and a reminder that history lives not just in museums but in kitchens, cafes, and communities.
Join us for A Taste of Pride and experience the city through new eyes, new flavours, and new connections. Come hungry for history, curious for culture, and ready to celebrate the taste of pride.
