Come and experience small-boat sailing at beautiful Somers Yacht Club

Please note: due to forecast weather conditions the sailing portion of this event will not go ahead due to safety, the spectator portion will still take place with drinks and nibbles available at the club from 3pm. 

In this special event, held at Somers Yacht Club on the Mornington Peninsula, a small number of queer women and non-binary folk will be hosted by the Somers Women in Sailing Happiness social group. You will be personally taken for an hour-long cruise by an experienced female sailor, who will literally show you the ropes.

• Arrival at 2pm
• Briefing at 2.30pm
• Sailing from 3pm to 4pm
• 4pm to 5pm, drinks at the bar, overlooking the bay.

Two types of tickets are available: sailing and spectator. Both will receive a complimentary drink at the bar.

Sailing

Somers Yacht Club will provide you with a sailing boat, an experienced female sailor, and a life-jacket, and a safety patrol boat will be in use. The club house is equipped with a change room and hot showers, which you are welcome to use. You will need a base level of mobility to participate, unfortunately we are not equipped to cater for disabled sailors. However please discuss any special requirements with us, as in some cases we may be able to make appropriate adjustments.

Wear warm clothing — even on a hot day it can be cold on the water. And expect to get wet — you will wade into knee-deep water to get into the boat.

You will need to register for an Australian Sailing number for insurance purposes. This is free and we can help you get one.

Sailing is a weather-dependent sport. We will not sail if it is very windy for safety reasons. 

Spectator

If you are more suited to dry land, you can still enjoy the day.

We have a limited number of spectator tickets available. Take a seat at the bar, enjoy a glass of wine or lemonade and watch the sailing action on the bay in air-conditioned comfort. Our club house is wheelchair accessible.
