Queerways Walking Tour - City of Yarra
Images: by Matto Lucas
Step into Yarra’s queer history—a journey where every street (and dark alley) holds a story
Join us for a vibrant journey through Yarra's LGBTQIA+ history!
This year, we’ll begin at Fitzroy Library and finish at Collingwood Library, exploring places of queer significance along the way—including the Keith Haring mural, The Peel, The Laird, and more—as originally researched and documented by Queerways' Retracing Queer Footprints audio tours.
The walking tour will start at 5:30pm and run for about 2–2.5 hours. It will be led by our fabulous local queer community member, Tex. As you explore, you'll hear captivating stories and celebrate the community's resilience, connection, and diversity, all while being immersed in the historical significance of our suburbs.
These walks are presented by Yarra Libraries and Rainbow Yarra for the Midsumma Festival. Participants are advised to bring sturdy shoes, a bottle of water, and appropriate sun protection. This is a fun, social community event—so bring a friend, or make a new one on the day!
Accessibility: The walk is entirely outdoors and follows some narrow footpaths. Please contact the event organiser with any questions about accessibility: Yarra Libraries, ph 1300 695 427.
