A Message from Sally Capp, Lord Mayor of Melbourne
One of my favourite aspects about living and working in the City of Melbourne is our fearlessly fabulous parade of individuality.
The Midsumma Festival is a culmination and celebration of that diversity–a reminder that Melbourne is a city for all people no matter who you are, what you wear or who you love. It’s this welcoming and inclusive spirit that makes us–at the City of Melbourne–so proud to be a long-time supporter of the festival.
Each summer, it unites the LGBTQIA+ community, attracts more than 255,000 people and sets the rhythm for the year.
We look forward to the live entertainment and creative costumes of the Midsumma Carnival, relish the opportunity to strut our stuff in the annual Pride March, and pour over the packed program of world-class art and performance right here on our doorstep.
Congratulations to the organisers, artists, sponsors and partners for curating yet another year of celebrations, and cementing Melbourne’s reputation as the events, arts and cultural capital.
But mostly, thank you for shining a light on the glorious mix of people, ideas and experiences that create this beautiful bustling city of ours.
