Seams Affirming

We don't have to reshape ourselves to fit clothes, we can reshape clothes to fit our true selves.
Seams Affirming is a joyful, TGD-led creative learning program bringing trans and gender diverse adults from across the Goldfields region together in Daylesford to learn to sew, alter, upcycle and reimagine clothing in ways that affirm body, identity, comfort and personal style.
Across five Saturday educational workshops and five Wednesday open studio drop-in sessions, participants will build practical skills in repair, alteration, fit adaptation, construction and wearable art creation using second-hand clothing and affordable materials. No polished fashion sense or prior sewing skills are required! Come to explore identity expression through textiles, experiment, learn, make, share ideas and discover new ways to achieve gender euphoria on a budget!
Each session also features presentations exploring trans and gender diverse representation and celebration through clothing, textiles and adornment across histories and cultures, alongside inspiring contemporary TGD and gender-expansive artists, designers and makers.
You cannot be what you cannot see. But we are not alone in this sewing room. Our identities have ancestors. By stitching ourselves into that long story, we can find new ways to wear ourselves into the world.
The atmosphere is creative, social and celebratory, with space for peer connection, conversation and culturally safe wellbeing support woven naturally through the program.
We must feel safe to bring our whole selves into the room, including the parts that may need a little mending.
Produced by Maropa Vagabond Productions (MVP), led by Jax Vagabond and MAtthew RObert PArsons, in partnership with ChillOut and Thorne Harbour Country.
Seams Affirming celebrates practical skill development, gender affirmation, creative possibility and the joy of collective making alongside TGD peer community.
