O UT
A Queer Takeover at Brunswick Street Gallery
Join us as we celebrate the launch of O UT, our annual Midsumma Festival exhibition program, featuring some of Australia’s most exciting emerging and mid-career LGBTQIA+ artists.
Spread across multiple galleries, our group exhibition will showcase the work of a variety of emerging to mid-career artists, each with their own unique curatorial voice. Spilling out to the street, our Ground Floor Gallery will be taken over by award-winning artist James Hale presenting his sardonic installation 'Being it'.
In this, his third exhibition at Brunswick Street Gallery, Melbourne artist James Hale presents an aphoristic body of drawings that explore the shared creative impulse of writing and art making. While ultimately sympathetic, each work gleefully exposes and embraces a Queer sensibility that isn't accessible, edifying or, at times, even palatable.
Bringing together artists to represent the diverse experiences of our community, O UT sets the tone for an all-welcoming affair.
