A triple bill of experimental dance works

Temperance Hall presents six contemporary dance works by experimental choreographers who disparately and rigorously explore multitudes of 'queer’. Presented over two weeks, Temperance Hall's second week of programming presents work by Mara Galagher, Alexander Powers, and Valentina Emerald.

big foot pink eye, by Mara Galagher

turbo banshee with selfie stick in hand in the centre of the city. getting clocked not as a transwoman but as bigfoot. if u were bigfoot u would take this many selfies, i need to be documented. cause i'm not going to be here for much longer. i hope to be on the brink of an exothermic reaction but only by stumbling into it. i want to find a sweet spot of the most arduous beauty to the most pathetic f@ggotry. i will exploit all resources to find out how beautiful I can look in this sewerage drain.

Sexual Violence, by Alexander Powers

A solo work that continues Powers’ stridently exhausting approach to choreography – this time drawing upon Deleuzian immanence and queer post-morality. Powers explores the immanence of the theatre through the use of noise, breath and distortion – summoning moments of futile exhaustion and amputated grief, drawing upon the violence inherent between the gaze of the audience and her body.

AMPLIFY, by Valentina Emerald

AMPLIFY is an experimental participatory dance work, marked by an onslaught of perpetually fractured perspectives. The performance and its live stream compete for your attention, blurring the boundaries between audience, performer and screen. A cacophony of impulses and distractions dynamically merge physical performance and live stream transmissions in this electrifying display.
